Empire State Building Backdrop for a Proposal

What do you think of when someone says “Valentine’s Day?” Do you think of the color red, candies, and roses? Valentine’s Day marks an extra special time for some people more than the love-stuffed holiday. Valentine’s Day is the number one day for marriage proposals. We have all been to or participated in at least one wedding in our lifetime. Whether your own wedding or a wedding of a friend or co-worker, it is inevitable, you leave with a spring in your step and a renewed love in your heart. With Valentine’s Day approaching, we decided to look at Valentine’s Day proposals and weddings.

There are numerous internet sites that can provide you with ideas for Valentine’s Day themed proposals and even weddings.  A site such as http://www.brides.com list the top ten ways to propose to your mate on Valentine’s Day including renting a billboard, putting together a photo album timeline of fun dates throughout your relationship, and even recreating your first date.

Wedding Proposal on a Billboard

How about having a marriage ceremony that overlooks the New York City skyline? Every year couples enter a drawing to get married at the top of the Empire State Building. In the past, 14 lucky couples have   won a private Valentine’s Day Wedding ceremony that is both romantic and exhilarating. This year the Empire State Building is doing something a little different. In celebration of their $550 million renovation the Empire State Building asked Colin Cowie, world renowned wedding planner, to partner with them in giving four couples the Valentine’s Day wedding of their dreams! The theme was chosen as “Wings of Love.” In order to be entered the couple had to fill out an entry form along with a video that explained what makes their love soar and when they want to get married at the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. To see the four couples and track their wedding plans and progress, click here!

Whether you rent a billboard, comprise a photo album, enter to win a wedding overlooking a gorgeous city skyline, or just celebrate the one(s) you love, may this Valentine’s Day be as special and filled with love and laughter.

Weddings, weddings and more weddings are in store for 2012! Let’s hope we get more cowbell for “The Royals” and less cowbell for the Kardashian nuptials this year!

Slated for the aisle are three celebrity couples guaranteed to make a big splash in the wedding scene this year!

Jessica Simpson and football player Eric Johnson started dating in May of last year and were engaged in November. Sources say a date has been set, but the couple remain tightlipped on announcing it publicly.

Simpson recently said she still has not found her perfect dress and she’s unsure if she wants a big princess dress or something curvy.

Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy started dating in the spring of 2010. They became engaged in April of this year and had a son over the summer. Wedding details have yet to be announced. The couple say they are not in a rush to get married and they are currently enjoying their newest addition, Bingham Bing.

Ashley Hebert, the latest Bachelorette, and New York construction manager J.P. Rosenbaum became engaged at the end of the shows’ season. The wedding will be later this year once Hebert completes dental school. The couple plan to reside in New York after the wedding.

What other celebrity weddings are slated for 2012? Any predictions for a quick alter run?

This year we’ll be ringing in the New Year with Hollywood Casino and rocking with the band Disco Inferno .  The casino will be appropriately decked out in a disco theme.  We are also providing supplies for weddings and private, in-home parties, restaurants, veteran’s clubs and night clubs with balloon drops, party hats and noise makers.  The trend this year seems to be smaller, in-home gatherings although there are still a lot of people that still attend large hotel parties and at night clubs, American Legions and VFWs.

As Christmas and the end of the year approach, we reflect on the past twenty years in business.  We are amazed at all of the changes that have taken place.  For our own business, the biggest change was moving into a storefront location. Smaller changes over the years were adding different product lines such as linens, chair covers, invitations and wedding accessories. In each of these product lines the selection continues to grow each year, which definitely provides something for everyone.

From outside our business, the largest change would be the internet and its impact on how business is conducted, both positively and negatively.  The internet allows shopping to be done from the home or office and photos and information can be emailed instantly instead of waiting for the mail or an in person appointment.  However, many of our products are still better to see in person before making a final selection so you are able to check out the quality and detail of the items.  You should also always meet your potential vendors in person so you know who will be working your event.

Five years ago when I planned my own wedding, I had the advantage of already knowing the vendors that I would use and was familiar with many of the needed products.  There are many changes to come in 2012 for Balloons and More, but you will have stop by to see! Best wishes to everyone for a healthy and prosperous 2012.

Our 16-month “journey to the aisle” with Sarah Smith continues. Sarah is 8 months away from her wedding! Last month, she was relieved to have ordered the bridesmaids dresses and was working on planning the honeymoon!  Let’s see what’s been going on the past month.

You mentioned last month that you had to reschedule your engagement photos.  Have you done that yet and when can you share them?

We haven’t yet, but I will definitely share our photos though when they are done!

You mentioned last month that the honeymoon planning was going well?  Have you booked your trip yet?

We haven’t officially booked our trip just yet, but we are getting very close!  We are thinking of going to Punta Cana, Dreams Resort.

What else has been going on with your wedding planning that you would like to update the Balloons and More readers on?

We got the majority of our centerpieces picked & purchased.  The guys are going later this month to book tuxes, and I’m getting ready to go for my first dress fitting! We have been taking advice from a lot of friends and family and have been busy picking up “little things” for our wedding now so we don’t forget about it later.  This is also really helping save money too because we have been able to purchase things on sale!

I am also hoping to meet with the florist right after the New Year to finalize flower arrangements!

One more thing…we have our Save the Dates…working on sending them this week! J
